Guide
Best photo spots in Bali
From the team that has photographed 400+ families here over 10 years: where to go, when the light is best, and how to skip the crowds. Bali is close to the equator, so sunrise is around 6am and sunset around 6–6:30pm all year.
Uluwatu and the Bukit
The limestone south, 30–60 minutes from Seminyak. Cliffs, white sand and the best sunsets on the island. This is our home area.

Melasti Beach
Best light: Late afternoon
White sand and turquoise water at the bottom of a road cut through tall limestone cliffs. The cliffs give shade and a dramatic background, and the beach is wide enough to find your own corner.
Tip: Weekends are busier. Low tide uncovers rock pools that reflect the sky.
Uluwatu clifftops
Best light: Sunset
Sheer cliffs dropping into the Indian Ocean, with the sun going down over the water. One of the most photographed sunsets in Bali.
Tip: Arrive an hour before sunset. Around the temple, the monkeys grab sunglasses and phones, so keep them in a bag.
Padang Padang and Bingin
Best light: Morning
Small coves reached by steps through the rocks, with clear water and surfers in the background.
Tip: Mornings are quieter and the light is softer. Wear shoes you can climb steps in.
Seminyak and Canggu
The west coast. Long beaches facing the sunset, rice fields between the villas and an easy-going surf vibe.

Seminyak and Double Six beaches
Best light: Sunset
Wide, flat sand facing west, so the whole sky turns gold and pink. Wet sand at low tide doubles everything as a reflection.
Tip: Start 45 minutes before sunset to get both golden light and the colour after the sun drops.
Batu Bolong and Echo Beach, Canggu
Best light: Sunset
Darker volcanic sand, surfers and a younger crowd. Relaxed and lively rather than polished.
Tip: Great for couples who want candid, laughing photos rather than posed ones.
Canggu rice fields
Best light: Early morning
Green paddies between the villas, with palm trees and morning mist.
Tip: Each year there are fewer, so ask us which fields are still open and photogenic.
Ubud and the green centre
Jungle, rice terraces and waterfalls, about 1–1.5 hours from the south coast. Cooler, greener and best early in the day.

Tegallalang rice terraces
Best light: Sunrise to 9am
The classic stepped rice terraces north of Ubud. Layers of green and palm trees in every direction.
Tip: By mid-morning it is hot and crowded. Swings and "nests" are separate paid extras.
Campuhan Ridge Walk
Best light: Sunrise
An easy paved path along a grassy ridge between two jungle valleys. Soft light, open sky and very few people at dawn.
Tip: Bring water and go before 7am, when it is still cool.
Jungle waterfalls
Best light: Morning
Waterfalls such as Tegenungan and Tibumana, with mist, ferns and deep green light.
Tip: Rocks are slippery and the stairs are steep. Bring shoes with grip and a change of clothes.
Day trips: north and east
Further from the south (2–3 hours each way), so plan a whole morning. Travel outside our standard areas is charged separately.

Ulun Danu Beratan, Bedugul
Best light: Early morning
A temple that seems to float on a mountain lake, often with mist on the water. Cool weather all year.
Tip: Bring a jacket. Mornings are calmer before tour buses arrive.
Handara Gate, Bedugul
Best light: Morning
A traditional Balinese split gate with green mountains behind it.
Tip: There is usually a queue, so go early.
Lempuyang Temple, "Gates of Heaven"
Best light: Sunrise
The famous gate framing Mount Agung. The "reflection" in many photos is a mirror trick, not water.
Tip: Queues for the photo can take hours. Worth it if you love the shot; skip it if you hate waiting.
When to visit
April to October is the dry season: clear skies and the most reliable sunsets. November to March is greener, with short, heavy afternoon showers that usually pass within the hour, so mornings are the safer bet. If rain cancels your shoot with us, we move it to another slot during your stay for free.
